The views from Penrhyn Castle across the gently rolling parkland towards the Menai Strait are some that I will never tire of. I was lucky enough to work for the National Trust at Penrhyn and have been able to see these views at times of the day outside of normal visiting hours, capturing some glorious morning light and magnificent sunsets, but this particular view is my favourite. To me, this bench has the perfect vista, being able to see both Puffin Island and the Great Orme and on this Halloween morning the tide was out, leaving the bench and sky to draw attention. I was on my way into work at this time so didn’t have my Nikon with me, but I always have my trusty iPhone on hand, and I’m a big believer in the Chase Jarvis quote “the best camera is the one that’s with you”.

Having my iPhone available at any moment has meant that I have been able to hone some of my skills and capture some scenes that I otherwise would have missed. This particular image was taken on an iPhone 5S (the height of technological fashion at the time!) so I won’t be able to make any sizeable prints from it, but it’s been nice to be able to share it here as part of the Photographer Challenge. Every year sees advances in the capabilities of phone cameras and the latest iterations are more able to produce images that can be printed at a decent size. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover that there are plenty of other photos I’ve shared within this challenge that are taken on iPhone and I’ll point them out as we go. You don’t necessarily need a big expensive camera to take good pictures. Show me your best phone camera captures in the comments!
