This photo introduces one of my favourite types of photography: Lensball Photography. I first discovered lensball photography back in 2015 and since then, my collection of has grown and grown. I have lensballs that vary in size from 40mm to 130mm, and each of them have their own "traits". In general, the bigger the ball, the heavier it will be, but at the same time it will also display the clearest, least distorted image. Much of the decision making as to which ball I take with me when I go out shooting comes down to how far I will need to carry it, and what I intend to shoot with it - complex or detailed scenes will require the biggest lensball I can carry on that occasion. Simpler scenes, like this one, are fine with a smaller ball.

This particular image shows sunset views across the Menai Straight from Doc Fictoria in Caernarfon and was shot using one of my medium sized balls. This is the one I keep in the car, just in case, which was handy as we were out to dinner, thankfully perfectly timed for the end of our meal. Sometimes timing is everything!

A note of caution follows here: It is very important to be careful when taking lensball photos as it can be very easy to burn things. I've heard some nasty horror stories, that you're welcome to ask about, but I'm glad to say I have no tales of my own. The ball focuses the sun's rays, essentially making it a giant fire starter, just like using a magnifying glass when we were kids. Mine are always kept covered when not in use and are never used in bright direct sunlight. You have been warned!
