Day 24. Sometimes staying close to home can be just as rewarding as going out on an adventure!

A damp but mild January morning found me pottering in the garden looking for something to photograph with the theme “Juxtaposition”. Having had a very busy week in my day job, I had no desire to go out anywhere, but I still wanted to find something I could post for a monthly online competition.

I spotted this lone oak leaf, slowly progressing on its journey to decay, surrounded by the vibrant green grass, covered in dew drops that glistened in the early morning sunlight. The contrast between life and death, the wet grass and the crisp dry leaf, and even the green and the brown colours I feel fitted the brief well.

This viewpoint brings me back to my point about changing your perspective - in this case, shooting from the ground. From a normal photography stance, this would just have looked like a lawn with some dead leaves strewn about it. I had to get down low for this image to work. I will continue to stress that being adventurous with your viewpoint is so important and will change your photography for the better!
