Day 23. Working in Menai Bridge has given me plentiful opportunities to capture some really amazing scenes across the Menai Strait.
This particular April morning was beautifully still and the resulting reflections were almost perfect. The Bangor University research vessel the Prince Madoc is usually docked at the end of the pontoon, which would have totally eclipsed the reflections here, so I was very fortunate that she was out on one of her regular teaching trips and it was early enough that our neighbours at RibRide had not put the rib in the water yet.
Conditions like this are unusual, the ebb and flow of the tide along with the strong currents out in the middle of the Strait are not very conducive conditions to creating mirror like reflections. I was just very lucky to be in the right place at the right time, and that’s sometimes just how it goes. You can plan and plan for shoots, you can study the weather and the tides, know your location and hope that it all comes together as planned, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get the shot. The Prince Madoc could have been berthed, a boat could have sailed by making waves on the water, a light breeze would have created ripples, but instead I was presented with the perfect conditions. It is so important to grab opportunities whenever they arise - this was a two minute detour out of my day, just on the off chance, and look how spectacularly I was rewarded. I like to factor in time in my day to take advantage of any possibilities that arise, arriving early to things in my daily life so that when opportunity knocks I am able to jump straight in and grab 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 shot.
