Day 13. A couple of days ago we were at the viewpoint overlooking the Menai Strait, between the two bridges and today finds us just a little further down the road in the lay-by overlooking the Menai Bridge.

This was my first attempt at photographing the bridge at night. I used a slow shutter speed of 30 seconds to ensure I captured as much of the available light. I was blessed with perfectly still conditions and one of my favourite parts of this picture isn’t in fact the bridge - it’s the detail in the silhouettes of the trees on the island, reflected perfectly on the silky smooth water, something only possible on an evening with no breeze. I’m looking forward to revisiting this location again to capture the same scene under different conditions.

Currently the Menai Bridge is undergoing extensive works to repair some structural issues, and the ensuing traffic restrictions have negatively impacted businesses in the town of Menai Bridge and led to extensive congestion. The work is expected to take at least a further 18 months but should be completed in time for the 200th anniversary in 2025. It looks like I may have to wait some time before I get the chance to photograph this spectacular landmark restored to all its glory, but you can be sure that I will share them here with you at the earliest opportunity!
