Glorious sunrises across the Menai Strait are more than enough to brighten up anyone’s morning drive to work and I was lucky enough to see some really spectacular scenes when this was my regular commute. The easy access roadside location makes this one of the most photographed spots on Anglesey. A viewpoint between the two bridges that link the Isle of Anglesey with the mainland, with picturesque views of the Menai Bridge. With its popularity, it’s quite tricky to capture something that hasn’t been done over and over again, but the conditions on this September morning were ideal for focusing on something other than the Menai Bridge. The Carneddau Mountains stretch across the scene and appear to almost mirror the clouds above. The golden sunlight dances through the rising mist that shrouds the bridge, and with the high tide, casts a beautiful light on the waters that surround Church Island. This was another occasion that was captured on iPhone (XR this time) and it was the start of four straight days of stunning sunrises. Of the images I captured over those 4 days, this was the one I wanted to share with you as it’s the most uncommon - whilst all of them had captivating colours, this was the one that didn’t draw attention to the Menai Bridge, which is the most frequently photographed landmark from this vantage point.
When visiting popular locations it can be very difficult to find something different to capture, an unusual viewpoint, a novel composition, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t at least try. Sometimes there is nothing new to see, but you will always be developing your skills and just occasionally you’ll be rewarded with something truly unique.
