DAY 1 #PHOTOGRAPHERCHALLENGE

During the month of January on social media I shared some of my favourite photos as part of a #PhotograperChallenge

In February I have been sharing the stories behind these images #IAmAStoryteller

I will begin sharing these here, starting with my post from February 1st.

The initial challenge I was given was “to post one of my images each day, without description or further explanation for a whole month”. I have really enjoyed sharing these photos with you, it has forced me to be disciplined and really take a closer look at what I am creating. But there was one part that I found surprisingly challenging: “without description of further explanation”. I thought this would be easy, not having to come up with captions, just focusing on being consistent, making sure I posted everyday, but it was not. And that is because:

I am a storyteller.

Every one of my images has a story to tell. None of them just miraculously happened (although some may be the result of happy coincidence, but even then there’s a story to tell). So as we roll into February I will be revisiting some of the pictures I have shared in the past month and I will be telling their stories, exploring the beauty and magic of North Wales and beyond. Shall we begin?

Day 1. New Year 23/24. My initial plans had been to capture the midnight fireworks at Bangor Garth Pier. I am lucky enough to have front-row seats when it comes to views of the pier, but alas they were cancelled due to the weather. So instead I decided to think outside the box and see what else I could find to photograph. I experimented with a number of different compositions and techniques (with varying degrees of success!) and this was my favourite, looking directly up through the trees. I like the contrast between the blur of the branches that were being blown in the wind, and the sharpness of those that were still, it really gives a sense of motion.
